I've a new dog who recently had his boy bits taken away. He'd been in kennels in his previous home and only in a house during foster care.

When introduced to our bitch they got on well, but his behaviour is begining to change towards her. When putting on leads he uses his body weight to push her out of the way, and last night I went downstairs to find her on the rug, I coaxed her onto her bed, but as soon as she approched it he went to go for her and then agin when I tried to get her on it again.

I moved her bed away from him and she eventually got on it but all the time he was staring at her making her nervous.

I think he needs a lot of basic training, which I've started but I wonder if he is jealous of her or is he trying to be the alpha dog. Any suggestions would be gratefully appriciated.

My Grace is still a bugger for wanting to get to somewhere first. If i pat the sofa to invite sherry up for a cuddle she will push in fornt of her to get their first. The same when she is on the bed and growls at the others when they ask to get on for a snuggle. She gest told off and thankfully grace is all talk and no action. Meg put her in her place once and that was the end of that. She does still push her luck tho but we are just constantly re enforcing the hierachy.

Do you want him to be top dog. Does you female dog mind?? Meg is definatley alpha female although she does respect male authority. Milo just used to ignore her if she told him off for getting on the sofa with her and Alan is much the same. My males have not been confrontational but rather just aloof as it to say you can shout all you like i am still getting on wether you like it or not.

Having a new dog in the household is always hard so i am sending you some calming thoughts

Milo, Benjamin and Thomas always in our hearts
