Poor Harry. He starts to feel better then makes it worse by overdoing it. He doesn't understand about healing, bless him. I have no idea how you can calm him down and keep him occupied at the same time. If it was Pippa, I would retire to bed with her as she loves to snuggle in my bed. If you are with him, it may be enough to keep him rested. Best of luck and hope he is soon feeling better xxx

Spoke too soon

Harry went out into the garden this afternoon followed by an almighty bout of yelping and shaking which took 45 minutes of lap cuddling to go away. Have started him on the remedies but also took him to our vets and didn't see superheromanvet who is still on holiday but my least favourite vet.

She confirmed he has a heart murmur and to look out for coughing and shortness of breath.

basically Harry has one of three things:
1) a muscle based injury
2) nerve based injury
3) slight pain made worse by his reaction to it which is like a panic attack which is more a behavioural thing.

I came home with 2 lots of meds - pain killers and diazapam as a calmer down thing. I am trying the diazapam tonight - if it works - give him as and when. If it doesn't work then we try the pain killers

He exhibits a complete tolerance of pain at the vets which makes him difficult to diagnose. because of this my least favourite vet is convinced its behavioural. I am convinced he has an injury but his reaction to it increases rather than decreases the pain. He seems to be genuinely fearful of it. Which could be that he suffered a lot of pain in his previous home or could be because he can't do his favourite thing in times of stress and run away.

My least favourite vet also wants me to see the practice's behaviourist. My least favourite vet can **** right off.

Perhaps you can go and see the good vet when he returns from holiday as it doesn't sound as though you are any nearer to solving the problem.

I'm so sorry he's still not right Tash, I can imagine how worried you are. I do know that soft tissue injuries - muscle and ligament damage - can take a long time to heal. I guess vet checked his spine already. Healing vibes coming Harry's way, hugs for you both.

yep spine has been checked. He has quite a settled night after a whole diazepam (half didn't do anything). However he is still whimpering a little when moving. I am going to manage him over the weekend with painkillers, diazepam to keep him calm and the homoeopathic remedies which includes arnica) and if he is not better on Monday then it will be x-ray time.

Poor Harry. Go with your instincts; it certainly sounds like he has damaged something but the difficult thing is what. Agree with chris. Soft tissue injuries are not healed over night and Harry doesn't understand about not overdoing it. If it feels ok he will carry on as if nothing is wrong and eventually strain himself more. Ghe same would go for a trapped nerve actually and could explain the extended crying and shaking until it starts to release. I hope the painkillers and diazepam help . Hugs to Harry

Harry has had 2 good nights in a row and is much more himself today. his vocals have changed from 'muuuum its killing me' to 'mum i want a walk, mum I want some food, mum I want a snuggle'. He has moved without incident for 24 hours. Although the diazepam has made him a little dopey so he has stumbled a couple of times but he hasn't let this bother him. he is up on the sofa with me right now and when I went to put the washing away he came upstairs with me. So I am looking forward to a night in my bed but I will get him upstairs before I give him the diazepam to avoid any incidents on the stairs.

we both slept upstairs last night. I decided against giving him the diazepam in case he decided to come downstairs in the night. he seems a little subdued this morning so I will see how he goes

Harry seems to be fully recovered but has not yet had an off lead run. We shall try that Friday

yes sorry for not updating - it was my birthday weekend!

Harry has had several off lead runs and whilst a little cautious which I think is no bad thing he seems to have fully recovered. Although on the way home from our first run Duke was sick and Harry tripped over his own foot and limped home but that seems to be a one off!
